The general recommendation for F2P players when selecting a "main" kart is to purchase whatever Silver Gear kart is currently available (at the time of writing, this is the Golden Boxster). However, if you had to select something from here your best option would be whatever was most recently released (at the time of writing, it would be any one of the Lite series karts (Burst Lite/Marathon Lite/Saber Lite/Solid Lite)). Similarly, it is not recommended to look into the general shop for a main (one that you will drive most competitively with) speed kart, as it (currently) only contains Epic tier karts. The basic freebies in Storm (Nova Program) and Violet Meteor (reach level 25) are also pretty low performing relative to most of the other karts at this point, so you can get these strictly for collection purposes. However, you will usually want to want to quickly upgrade out of this.
When you first create an account, you will be given a Practice Kart which serves as your starting kart to get acquainted with the game.
